Property Location: Iolani Estate is located in Upcountry Haiku, which sits on the north side of Maui, slightly up the side of Haleakala. Iolani is located near the entrance to Haiku, and sits outside the rain band. Haiku is a small rural village, with a town center (Post Office, gym, bakery, pizza shop, grocery store, doctor, pharmacy, video shop etc). Be sure to stop at the cannery on West Kuiaha, for breakfast at Pauwela Cafe (they also have a fabulous Kalua turkey sandwich for lunch). Haiku offers quick access to Makawao (approx. ten minutes by car), which has a variety of great shops and several good restaurants. Paia is ten minutes by car.
Beaches: Haiku is considered "Upcountry", and there are no beaches within walking distance. The North Shore beaches of Hookipa, Baldwin, Tavares, and Paia Bay are all a short drive (5 to 15 minutes). The swimming, snorkeling beaches of Kihei, Wailea and Makena are 30-45 minutes by car.

Iolani Estate occupies a large two acre parcel of land, sitting on the edge of Maliko Gulch. This is the lowest section of Haiku (out of the rain band) and just a couple of minutes from Hookipa Beach. The grounds are beautifully landscaped with hundreds of trees and plants. A clay tennis court is shared between the main house guest cottage and studio. It is truly a tropical oasis!

The driveway into the property winds down a palm tree lined lane, to come to the back of the MAIN HOUSE. There is covered parking for three vehicles. The walkway to the house is overhung by tropical jade, wrapping around a trellis. The house was constructed with double pitch roof and coral rock exterior walls, blending it perfectly into the natural environment. The front of the house has a large oceanview, looking down across the gulch. A long overhung deck runs across the front, with gas grill, teak outdoor dining furniture and large balinese style loungers Sitting between the patio and the edge of the gulch is a 45ft lap style salt water swimming pool. This pool is for use of the main house ONLY, and is NOT shared with the cottage. The main house has three bedrooms, two bathrooms, a gourmet kitchen with European appliances, and spacious living/dining room. Other amenities include fax, telephone with answering machine, cable TV/VCR, DVD, CD stereo, coral rock floors, and ceiling fans. The Main House has full privacy, as the cottage guests do NOT have access to the lawn area surrounding the house.
